Beneath a vast rubber plantation lies a hidden treasure trove—gently parting the soil reveals the rare Pleurotus tuber-regium quietly growing within seemingly ordinary mushroom bags. This is not only a practical example of ecological agriculture but also an emerging industry driving rural revitalization.
On October 30, 2025, the “Entrepreneurial Talent Training Program,” meticulously planned and hosted by the Chengmai County Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and the County Employment Bureau, led over 40 participants on a field study visit to Baisha Li Autonomous County. This initiative represents a crucial step by Chengmai’s employment authorities in advancing entrepreneurial support and accelerating rural revitalization. Its objective is to facilitate the tangible leap from zero to one in developing the local forest-based economy through the approach of “learning externally, bringing back experience, and applying it in practice.”

Planning First: A Systematic Approach from Research to Implementation
Since the launch of the 2025 Entrepreneurship Service Series, the Human Resources and Social Security Department of Chengmai County has spent nearly two months conducting field visits to approximately 50 startups involved in rural revitalization. This effort comprehensively identified common challenges these enterprises face in technology, business models, and resource allocation. Building on this foundation, the County Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and Employment Bureau have rationally designed training content. They have designated the “Baisha Understory Mushroom Cultivation Model” as the core teaching case study, guiding participants to transition from “listening to presentations” to “observing on-site operations,” and from “theoretical learning” to “hands-on practice.”

On-Site Exploration: Discovering Wealth Opportunities in Rubber Plantations
Guided by the director of Baisha Biotechnology Co., Ltd., participants ventured into rubber plantations to experience the integrated “rubber + mushroom” cultivation system firsthand. The enterprise openly demonstrated all critical steps—from spawn cultivation and understory planting to sorting and processing—enabling participants to intuitively grasp and rapidly master the techniques. Despite a light rain, the trainees remained enthusiastic, braving the weather to tour the demonstration site. The continuous rows of mushroom greenhouses complemented the rubber trees, vividly showcasing the immense potential of understory agriculture.

Dual Highlights: Multifaceted Gains in Environmental and Economic Benefits
Tiger milk mushroom and Pleurotus tuber-regium, as two flagship products of Baisha’s under-forest economy, not only offer health benefits such as aiding digestion, relieving diarrhea, and boosting immunity, but also establish a comprehensive benefit framework encompassing “increased farmer income + positive ecological cycles + elevated industry standards.” By 2025, Baisha County’s total mushroom cultivation area under forest canopies reached 8,867 acres, with an annual output value exceeding 155 million yuan. This initiative provided stable employment for nearly 190 people and generated over 90,000 temporary job opportunities, effectively demonstrating that “profitable livelihoods can thrive without logging.”
Chengmai Plan: Driving Industry Development Through Determination and Action
Abundant rubber forest resources represent Chengmai’s natural advantage. The county’s human resources and social security department has explicitly stated that it will seize this inspection opportunity to fully advance the development of under-forest economy in Chengmai: on one hand, strengthening policy guidance and technological support while pooling resources from agriculture, science and technology, finance, and other sectors; on the other hand, encouraging participants to “return with projects and implement with technology,” establishing a complete service chain of “inspection-learning-incubation-promotion” to truly transform the “Baisha Approach” into the “Chengmai Action.” Deepening Rural Reform
