Lignosus rhinocerus or commonly known as Tiger milk mushroom is an important medicinal mushroom found in Malaysia. The fungus was known as “Tiger’s milk” mushroom according to the folklore, as it was believed to emerge from the very spot where the milk of a prowling tigers has dropped on the ground. The underground fungus tuber or sclerotia will remain there for months, years or decades. The mushroom will only sprout out from the ground when nature calls.
The underground sclerotium is the part with medicinal value. The local community had been using this mushroom as an important medicinal mushroom as back dated even in 1930. Besides as a tonic to maintain health, this fungus was believed to have more than 15 medicinal usages according to the different tribes. This included treatment for fever, cough, asthma, breast cancer, stomach cancer, food poisoning, healing wounds and etc.
At the opening of the International Convention on Biotechnology in 2002 in Kuala Lumpur, then former Prime Minister Tun Dato’ Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad said that his chronic cough stopped after he consumed Chinese medicine derived from Tiger’s Milk mushroom. The powder is also sometimes mixed with Chinese rice wine and applied topically to treat lumps, sores and boils. There are traditional face creams made from the mushroom, suggesting anti-bacterial properties.
Cordyceps are a type of fungus, better known as a species of edible medicinal, nutritionally beneficial mushrooms. There are multiple species of Cordyceps. The most commonly used species is Sinensis, which is a Cordyceps to be shown to contain the bioactive compound Cordycepin and cordimin. Cordyceps sinensis has been used for centuries in traditional Asian medicine and Chinese medicine, although only as of late that the western medicine has taken notice for its medicinal benefits.

Agro Farm Introduction
Bioalpha operates two of the largest herbal farms in Malaysia, which are located in Pasir Raja, Terengganu and Desaru, Johor. Large supply of raw materials for our in-house production of herbal health supplements and continuous expansion of product variety are made possible through precise agricultural techniques and sustainable farming best practices.
At our herbal parks, we have planted over 20 types of herbs and spices, such as Tongkat Ali, Kacip Fatimah, Hempedu Bumi, Roselle, Dukung Anak, Pecah Beling, Lemongrass, Ginger, Black Pepper and Soursop, to name a few. Our herbal farms adhere to the Malaysian Good Agriculture Practices (MyGAP) issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry that require good practices of agriculture in the context of social and environment, ensuring high quality and safety in consumption of produce, as well as preservation of natural ecosystem.
