Tiger Milk Mushroom (Lignosus rhinocerus) grow in HAIKEN Rubber Forest
Rubber forests hold treasures. Come! Let me show you the Tiger Milk Mushroom (Lignosus rhinocerus) growing in the HAIKEN Rubber Forest.“ On October 16, a reporter followed Xie Songgu, project manager of the Tiger Milk Mushroom cultivation base at the Jianfeng Team of Changtian Branch, Haikeng Shenquan Group, into the rubber forest for a ”treasure hunt.”

Sunlight filtered through the rubber tree leaves, casting dappled shadows on the ground. Xie Songgu led the reporter through the towering rubber trees, occasionally bending down to examine the soil. After walking for a short while, they approached a seemingly ordinary patch of grass where he suddenly stopped. “There’s something here. Come dig with me,” he said, skillfully using a hoe to gently turn over the topsoil.

Soon, a corner of a yellowish-brown, lumpy object emerged. The reporter looked closely: its surface was rough and uneven, caked with soil, looking exactly like an ordinary stone buried in the ground. Reaching out to touch it, the reporter felt its hardness—its texture was indeed similar to stone. A question arose in their mind: “What is this? What is it used for?”

Tiger Milk Mushroom Benefits
“This is called Tiger Milk Mushroom, and it has numerous benefits!” explained Xie Songgu. Also known as Tiger Milk Fungus or Tiger Milk Ganoderma, it is a high-value economic fungus with both medicinal and edible value. Rich in protein, minerals, and various vitamins, many pharmaceutical companies use it as raw material for producing traditional Chinese medicine preparations and health supplements. Additionally, Tiger Milk Mushroom is a prized culinary ingredient, suitable for cooking dishes or preparing health-promoting meals.

How to consume such a hard Tiger Milk Mushroom? Back in his office, Xie Songgu rinsed the freshly harvested Tiger Milk Mushroom clean. He then took a sharp knife and sliced open the cap to reveal its white interior structure.

Despite its dense texture, the Tiger Milk Mushroom can be used for stewing soups or brewing tea after undergoing cleaning, slicing, and drying processes. Xie Songgu explained while slicing the mushrooms. Sun-dried Tiger Milk Mushroom slices, combined with a small amount of lean meat and a few honey dates, are placed in a clay pot and simmered over low heat. The resulting broth is exceptionally savory and aromatic, completely free of any medicinal odor, instead emitting a distinctive mushroom fragrance. Brewing Tiger Milk Mushroom slices with snow pears and fritillary bulb (Chuanbei) creates a beverage that moistens the lungs, alleviating throat discomfort and cough symptoms. This preparation is particularly common in Guangdong and Fujian provinces.

Tiger Milk Mushroom Cultivation in HAIKEN Rubber Forest Diversification Development
In recent years, Haikeng Shenquan Group has actively implemented relevant policies from the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial Government, and Haikeng Group Party Committee regarding the development of under-forest economy. While steadily advancing the mango industry, the group leverages the abundant local rubber forest resources to continuously refine its cultivation system. It explores diversified, multi-tiered development models such as growing turmeric and Tiger Milk Mushrooms under the forest canopy and engaging in poultry farming, thereby promoting the coordinated development of the under-forest economy across multiple sectors.

In February this year, we conducted a pilot planting of 110 acres of Tiger Milk Mushrooms under rubber trees. As Tiger Milk Mushrooms thrive in shaded environments, rubber tree undergrowth provides an ideal growing condition. A representative from Hainan State Farms Shenquan Group stated that as a key under-forest cultivation project, Tiger Milk Mushrooms yield two harvests annually. From planting to harvest takes only six months, forming a complementary operational system with rubber plantations. This significantly enhances land utilization rates and economic returns.
